Necoya Tyson- All About You Events
How/what did you start your business?
In 2008, I was working for an association that was downsizing. While I never was laid off/fired, I always had a fear that I would be. So, I launched All About You Event Management as a safety net and the rest is history!
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by other entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs. To me, it doesn’t matter the industry. I find that I can learn something from those who have been business owners longer than me, as well as those just starting out.
What motivates you?
I’m motivated by success. But I’m also motivated by lessons. I feel that there is a lesson in all of the mistakes that I make as a business owner, a mother, a friend, etc.
What are you most proud of?
I’d say that I’m most proud of the creation of my wedding workshop series and networking event, Mornings are for Mimosas. I honestly believe that it’s going to be a household saying! We recently hosted one in Austin, TX and the turnout & feedback were both phenomenal. I can’t wait to host more later this year and beyond. I have HUGE plans for it!
Tell us something that folks wouldn't know about you?
I have a weird crush on Vince Vaughn. LOL! He’s hilarious, seems to have a great personality and he’s TALL!!!
Tell us about a time you overcame a challenge?
A few years ago, I was hosting the spring edition of Mornings are for Mimosas which was for couples that were getting married. A few weeks prior to the start of the event, I’d noticed that we didn’t have any registrants. I’d changed the date twice and the venue wouldn’t allow me to change the date again, so changing/cancelling wasn’t an option at the time.
I reached out to my social media manager and told her to remove all of the social media posts on the event and to give me a few hours to think through what we could do to “save” this event. Well as I was thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that wedding couples may not have the time or energy to sit through a 2 hour workshop. They’d rather have little snippets of information. However, we as wedding vendors LOVE to network and learn from each other. So, I asked her to update the social media posts to add that we were going to host the event for planners & vendors. And that’s how Mornings are for Mimosas: the Planners & Vendors edition was born.
How do you overcome adversity?
Struggle builds character. Often the moments in our life we are most proud of are the ones where we overcame adversity to accomplish something worthwhile. So honestly, I welcome adversity and I just push through it by working through it. I pray…a lot. I seek guidance from my mentor. Anything that doesn’t keep me down in the mental dumps long.
What advice would you give someone who wants to start their own business?
It’s not always going to be easy, but it’s worth it! All of the trials & tribulations that come along with being a business owner don’t outweigh the successes. Make sure to give yourself grace and room to grow in your business.
