Community Is…
The power of unity
The Old Town Boutique District launched a new social media photography campaign to shine a light on small business owners and the power of community to help support each other during these challenging times. The visual photo campaign titled “Community Is” highlights approximately 32 Alexandria small business owners and their families providing a visual interpretation of what their world looks like during the pandemic. Some images were shot at their homes with their families, or portraying what life looks like for a small business owner during a pandemic, some in front of their storefronts, or how operations look like in our new normal. Each business owner along with their families also describe their interpretation of what ‘community is’ and what it means to them during a time of crisis and beyond.
The Old Town Boutique District partnered with local powerhouse photographer Sarah Marcella, for this visual campaign. Sarah shot all the images at a safe distance from the driver's side of her car. The purpose of the project was to raise awareness that small businesses continue to be the backbone of our economy, and are the ones that makeup Main Streets all across the U.S. - highlighting that the power of community is vital more than ever for them to thrive through these unprecedented times.
